Afternoon Tea @ LuvCravings

saw this place putting an ad and article in a local chinese magazine and was attracted by it. a friend heard that the owner had a passion to start a cafe for a long time

filled with sets for 3 people
velvet cupcake, chocolate mousse, chocolate coated strawberry
the mousse was too heavy to finish
strawberries were huge and sweet even though not in the season, the best out of the 3
scones (cheese and earl gray) and quiches
prefer the earl gray one as it was lighter than the cheese
sandwiches
nothing too special
tray of tea samples but there were a ton more to choose from
the menu we chose, the other one has more items for more $

tea set area

-the atmosphere was modern and cozy, especially since the afternoon tea sets were served in a different area
-everything was pre-made so reservation is necessary, they dropped one of the quiches and had to replace with another scone, if you want specific items from the menu you have to mention in reservation
-hard to say if i want to revisit just for the tea set as the food was average and nothing surprising
-can see that the owner (assuming) is really interested in tea as one of us wanted coffee instead of tea but she replied that coffee's taste would be too strong and defeat the purpose of the tea set, but she said she would still offer it to us if we really wanted it
-server was superb, offered us a ton of teas to smell before finally settling done on one, she really knows her teas
-instant 10% discount if you like their facebook page, also got free scratch and wins at the end for next visit
-free parking in back and close to King Edward Station

Afternoon Tea @ Globe @ YVR

most people living in vancouver will probably rarely visit the Fairmont at the airport. saw a groupon from teambuy for $36 in june and decided to give it a try. previously have tired the downtown one and it was the same price groupon offered by dealfind. the airport one however offered additional sparking wine. the most recent groupon even included 2 free hour parking which would have been a much better offer. first time i tried booking was on a holiday and was rejected. this time was a weekday and had no problems booking

tea set

sandwiches
scones
sweets/desserts
fruit starter
quite plain, no real fruity taste
weird that they just soaked it in red water
would be nice if it was sugary water instead
sparking wine
tea samples for you to smell
tea temperature lasted till the very end

Richmond, BC V7B 1M8

-place was quite quiet with only 3 tables and 1 server, we were the only ones eatting the tea set
-great place to relax while watching planes landing on the runway
-we were free to choose wherever we wanted to sit
-parking is a big hassle as its expensive, best to skytrain in
-comparing to the downtown tea set, this one was more casual and modern while the other was more elegant and classy
-if there was no group/discount, i would never come again due to location inconvenience

Afternoon Tea @ Truffles Fine Foods Cafe @ Van Dusen Garden

from word of mouth, heard there was a new cafe in Van Dusen Garden that faces the garden without needing to pay entry fee. was satisfied with the first visit so went again for the second time. to my surprise, it was quite busy.

from 2nd visit, pretty much the same
croissant and scones both quite soft
tea flavour is fixed, has about 6-8 tea cups
own choice of pannini
italian one was too salty
$28 for 2, $50 for 4
inside seating

-free parking and does not require entry fee
-self seating, outside seating quite popular, depends on your luck
-pricing fair, big portions, better deal than hotel afternoon teas
-no tips required since you order yourself but would be nice if you leave some
-they carry the tray to you and identify you with the number sign
-an excellent place for relaxing and to enjoy afternoon tea

Snack @ Beaver Tails

at Whistler we saw Beaver Tails but was unfortunately closed. my friend told me its as good as the elephant ears at PNE. its been over 10 years since going to Grouse mountain and my 2nd attempt at Grouse Grind (did not make it through last time 6 yrs ago due to time constraints).  i'm a fan of cinnamon sugar and love churros, cinnamon balls + pretzels. when i saw it off in a distance, i knew i had to grab some especially after a big workout

cinnamon & sugar
-much better than all those other cinnamon sugar food than i've eaten
-nice and soft and chewy
-like how thin it is and freshly made

-unfortunately this is also the closet one to vancouver, i was happy when i saw it in Lonsdale Quay but it seems to have closed down recently

Cake/dessert @ Thierry Chocolaterie Patisserie Cafe

i'm not a downtown person since it's hard to find parking and it's busy everywhere. but met up with friends who had school and work in downtown and they suggested the place

tiramisu
lemon tart
sourness just right
tart was nice and crunchy
hot chocolate and tea
chocolate was too sweet especially to match with dessert
iced mocha
quite bitter, don't know if there is syrup to add as it was brought it to me
i usually don't drink coffee but mocha has always been fine, but this upset my stomach

-quite busy in the afternoon
-lots of outdoor seating
-pricey as its located in heart of downtown

Ice-cream @ Cows

so made a trip to Whislter for a few days. while strolling down the village, we smelled a very pleasant scent of fresh waffles. continuing down the path, we saw an ice-cream place. we weren't hungry so we just looked and decided may be we can get some later. but once we stepped out the door, we saw the sign saying "Canada's best ice cream" awarded by Reader's digest. we knew immediately we had to get some

half of store has souvenirs for sale

Messie Bessie
very rich chocolate flavour with lots of toffee inside
the sign that lured us

their signature ice-cream
tried the chocolate monster the next day
non-chocolate lovers can try the PEI strawberry which my friends loved
another sign that recognizes them as the world's best ice-cream

COWS Whistler
102-4295 Blackcomb Way
Whistler, BC V0N1B4
(604) 938-9822

-they use 16% milk which makes the ice-cream smoother
-basic cones are already waffle cones with the additional choices of chocolate dipped and sprinkles
-cones are not made when ordered but likely made within the hour or two
-lots of unique flavours
-$4.25+taxes may seem pricey but is definitely worth it
-we loved it so much we went back the next day
-unfortunately the closest one to Vancouver is this location
-i agree that it is the world's best ice-cream!
